Getting More Out Of Giving

"Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also. On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come" (1 Cor.16:1-2).

When we gather together on Sundays for our worship service, one of the things that we do is put money in the plate that is passed around. It is apparent from today's verses, that the apostle Paul gave this charge to the churches that were in Galatia and Corinth. As a part of the Lord's Word, it has been passed on to us. I had a brother years ago that when assigned the task of praying for the giving, would always say, "I'm praying for the getting...." I know that he was trying to be humorous, but I never quite got it....It is not really unusual for people to have some slight misconceptions about giving each week. Maybe its because praising the Lord in song seems so spiritual. So does praying, reading the Word, and listening to a sermon. The giving part seems so physical, as we reach into our pockets, wallets, or purses..."Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing" (Psa.100:2). Psalm 100 would be a great one to read and meditate upon today. In it are many of the reasons that we come together and worship the Lord. Because the giving of money may seem mundane, this part of the service might be carried on in an almost begrudging way. This is so far from the way it should be. It should be an integral part of serving the Lord with gladness.... On many fronts, we should look at the giving as one of the highlights of our service to Him. When it is properly understood, it can become a truly spiritual manifestation of worship. It can become an incredible source of fellowship, with great blessings attached. I believe that it can become just that when we look at it as an important part of serving the Lord with gladness...More to come....

Have a wonderful day... Make a difference in your small part of the world... Love mark Phil.4:11
