The Joy Of Giving - Experience It

"Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, 'Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much'" (Lk.19:8).

Zaccheus is famous for being the "wee little man" of a favorite children's song. He was a short, rich publican, (tax collector) that we get a brief glimpse of here in the gospel of Luke. Tax collectors were not the most popular guys back in those days, (go figure) and I assume that he was not Mr. Joviality... This short and wealthy Jewish man became a happy person on this day, however, as he learned the joy of giving. The Bible is replete with examples of people who gave. It would be good for us to remember some of them, so here's a refresher course....I've already mentioned Zaccheus, but how about the poor widow who gave the two small copper coins in Luke 21? Read about the overwhelming generosity of the very early Christians of Acts 2. "Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need." (V 45). Barnabas sold land in Acts 4 and "brought the money and put it at the apostles feet" (V 37). In 2 Corinthians 8, we have the wonderful example of generosity shown by the Macedonians...."they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints." (V 4). God does not just want us to give, but he wants us to do it with the right attitude. Now we might ask ourselves: "Now, look...I'm giving, right? I really doesn't matter how I feel about it, as long as I give....Right?" If that's the case, we might as well not give! The real point of giving has been missed... "Each man should give as he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER" (2 Cor.9:7). If we find a world that is just not very cheerful, maybe its because it does not give enough. God does not want us the miss out on the very best thing about giving....THE JOY!!! I sincerely believe that the more we give, the more we feel the joy of giving...How about you?

Have a great start to your week.....Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
