Having The Bible Gene

"Like newborn babies, crave spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good" (1 Pet.2:2-3).

In two different places in the New Testament, (1 Cor.3:2; Heb.5:12-14) the desire for milk (baby food) is cast in an unfavorable light. The figurative language is used to describe people who should have gone on toward solid food in their knowledge of the Word, but were still attached to the elementary stuff. In this usage by Peter, however, it is different. The unrestrained hunger of a healthy baby for milk is the backdrop as an example of an eager desire that a believer ought to have for the spiritual milk of the Word.... In contrast to those unfavorable uses of milk to solid food, Peter uses it as an appropriate nourishment by which babies grow up. He uses that same term in his second epistle when he writes: "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (3:18). Are there any choco-holics out there. You couldn't leave a bag of M&Ms around my dad. Once he started eating them, the bag was history. I inherited that chocolate gene, so even as an adult, we don't keep very much chocolate in the house. This is the way that God wants us to be about His Word! As we look at today's verses, we see that the initial act of tasting has taken place. Since the taste has proven to be more than satisfactory, or even delicious, the taster is to become an eater. The believer is urged on therefore to actually crave and long for more of that spiritual food. The great thing about this food is that unalike chocolate, this is nourishing food.... "now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.... so that by it you may grow up in your salvation... " The wonderful thing here is that it is never too late to develop that Bible gene, especially understanding that with it we can grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Bon Appetit....

Have a wonderful day... Spend time in the Word... Love mark Phil.4:11
