Release Your Inner Teacher

"The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" ( 2 Tim.2:2).

My weakest area of science teaching was chemistry. As unusual as it might seem as a science teacher, I was not too good with ratios of numbers. When called upon to teach general chemistry, I knew that some extra prep was necessary. And then, wonder of all wonders.... As I began to teach it, I learned more about it. Because I was exploring how to get the material across to my students, my proficiency grew. One of the best ways to learn a subject is to actually prepare to teach, and then actually teach it.... I always had this weird feeling that while I was teaching, I was really learning at a faster pace than when I was a student. Three things will happen when you decide to teach a class. First, because of the responsibility thrust upon you, you'll attend regularly. Good start, huh? Secondly, since you don't want to embarrass yourself, you'll spend time in preparation. Thirdly, since you are the teacher, you will by the very nature of your position contribute to the class. In today's verse, the apostle Paul has laid out the specs for how teaching was to be done. Timothy had heard the truth from his mentor Paul many times, but could not do all of the teaching himself... "entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." In large college science classes, there is a lot of work to be done in preparation and facilitation. Many college science professors have lab assistants and aides to make their teaching go along more smoothly. Maybe it would be wise for you to sit in for a while with an experienced teacher. Timothy certainly learned much in assisting Paul before he became a full-fledged teacher. Perhaps by taking this small step it would ease you into a teaching role. The church needs more teachers.....More good teachers! Are you willing to teach that others might benefit?

Have a great day... Think big.....Act small.... Love mark Phil.4:11
