"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Deut.31:6.... Heb.13:5).

I received a Charles Spurgeon devotional from one of my brothers the other day. Spurgeon was a Baptist scholar who preached in the mid to late 1800s. When you read a Spurgeon devotional, you must make your way through his King James speech. Near the end of one of the devotionals he used the word, hephzibah. After doing a bit of research, I found that it is used only twice in the Bible. Husbands and wives often have special names for one another that they use as terms of endearment. These little names might be totally inappropriate for use with anyone else, but for that particular couple they have meaning. Hezekiah was one of the great kings of Judah and for most of his life was a godly man. We find in 2 Kings 21 that his wife's name was Hephzibah. We would probably gloss over that except for the fact what Hephzibah means... Translated from Hebrew it means; "my delight is in her." Now that's a term of endearment. The other time the word is used is in Isaiah 62. This would be a great chapter to read and meditate upon. "No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah" (V 4). God is calling his people Hephzibah...The people were no longer deserted or their land desolate. God is saying that you are now Hephzibah.... God is saying, "my delight is in you (her)." The Psalmist writes: "For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation" (149:4). I believe that God intends for us to be His delight. As such, we get to enjoy his love, grace, and faithfulness. God wanted to be Israel's only Savior and He wants His Son to be ours. God wants to say about His church....Hephzibah....To those of us who are saved in Him, he says Hephzibah....Lets live our lives so that God will always take delight in us....

Have a great day... Let his light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
