Avoiding Mr. Magoo

"But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind" (2 Pet.1:9a).

I am sure that you have watched the animated cartoon character Mr. Magoo voiced by the late Jim Backus. Magoo is a wealthy short-statured retiree who gets into a series of comical situations due to his nearsightedness. This is compounded by his refusal to believe that he has a vision problem. The hilarity abounds as Magoo luckily gets out of his situations and is left no worse for wear. Today's verse describes a Mr. Magoo. A person who is not growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ (V 8) suffers from a severe case of myopia. What does it actually mean to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ? The apostle Paul tells us that we are to be conformed to the likeness of His Son. (Rom.8:29). I believe that this is what it really means to grow in His knowledge. The myopia comes when we read the second part of 2 Peter 1:9.... "But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins" We have forgotten that we have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ in the first place. The charm that we find in Mr. Magoo is that he gets out of the worst scenarios by accident or just plain luck. He lands on his feet ready for another mishap. Real life just doesn't work like this. Spiritual myopia or amnesia can get us into trouble that we might not be able to extricate ourselves from. It is only though a growth in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we can hope to become more like HIM... Lets avoid Mr. Magoo....

Have a wonderful day... Do good, give Him the credit.... Love mark Phil.4:11
