No Stumbling Allowed

"Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble......" (2 Pet.1:10a).

None of us wants to stumble and bumble through life. There are certainly things that might befall us over which we have little control. This storm that we just experienced here in the Northeast comes to mind. There was a certain feeling of uneasiness and helplessness as we awaited its arrival, but we all did certain things to be prepared for the worst. The apostle Peter makes his wonderful list of eight virtues that we are to aspire to here in 2 Peter, chapter one. They are to be added to one another to make us all better people. Today's verse is the culmination of that list. If we abound in those eight graces, ie, "add to you faith goodness....." we are seeing that our calling and election are sure. Peter then says; "For if you do these things, you will never stumble." Now let me make one thing abundantly clear.... This does not mean that we will never sin again... It means exactly what it says, and that is that we will not stumble. The word stumble in Greek actually means to become wretched or fall into misery. For the Christian that would be tied to losing our salvation. When Peter writes about not stumbling, he is referring to the ultimate prize of salvation. The apostle Paul says: "The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom" (2 Tim.4:18). If this assurance is to be manifest, then we have some preparation to make. Peter starts his list of virtues we are to attain with; "For this reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness........ " Lets all get into that no stumble zone by working diligently. As we work on the virtues that Peter admonishes us to aspire to, we can hang out the sign..... NO STUMBLING ALLOWED!

Have a great day... Let His light shine though you... Love mark Phil.4:11
