The Book Of Remembrance

"Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and esteem His name. 'They will be mine,' says the Lord of hosts, 'on the day that I prepare My own possession, I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him'" (Mal.3:16-17).

When Jane's youngest sister comes back to visit with us at the end of each summer, she keeps a journal of everything that we do during her time here. When we have trouble remembering something we did or when we did it, she is able to get us back on the right path. Malachi lived during a time of doubt and religious cynicism. He told them that if they were faithful to God, He would be faithful to them. Despite that, many were filled with despair and doubt. A group of them, as we learn from today's verses, decided to make a pact with themselves and God. They did this by preparing a journal... It is called, a book of remembrance. I look at this book of remembrance as a declaration on the part of people who still wanted to be God's people. Though the majority had for whatever reason(s), decided not to follow God's statutes, some had remained faithful and prepared the book. Though there is no exact parallel of the book of remembrance in the New Testament, there are some similarities...The apostle Paul wrote to Titus: "while we wait for the blessed hope--- the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good" (2:13-14). In Malachi's day he wrote that God would distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, and Paul says the same thing. We have an even greater hope than those who formed the book in Malachi's day. Are our names written in God's book of remembrance? Have we lived our lives in such a way that through our love and obedience God also wants to treat us as a father spares his son who serves him? The people then were willing to go on record about their commitment to the Lord.... Are we?

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
