Thanks As Praise

"I will thank you in the great congregation; in the mighty throng I will praise you" (Psa.35:18).

We all know how the perfunctory "thank you" works. It is the great re-balancer of the societal relationship scale. Something has been done for us, so as a social courtesy we say, "thank you." It is a must that we teach our children these relationship type skills also. Our thank you is the minimum payment necessary to keep a relationship in good standing. I know that I may have demeaned the courtesy of saying thank you, but I want to make an important point. As we approach the Thanksgiving season, we must look at the biblical concept of thanksgiving as different than the cultural one... In today's verse we see that important difference. Thanks to God is being tied to praise! With the giving of thanks to God, we are not engaging in the common courtesy of re-balancing a cultural scale. We are not attempting to make some minimum payment to keep the relationship in good standing. For absolute certainty, we are not paying back to God a debt that we owe him. As we examine this more closely, what could we ever pay back to God for what He has done in sending His Son to save us from our sins? Who could ever repay God for His grace, an obvious rhetorical question. If we could repay God for grace, it would no longer be grace.... "Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing praise to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth" (Isa.12:4-5). In the scriptures, thanks to God is never a repayment..... It is always praise.... Lets constantly give thanks to our Lord in praise...

Have a wonderful day... Do good..... Give God the glory.... Love mark Phil.4:11
