I Second That Emotion

"Oh, but if you feel like loving me, if you've got the notion.... I second that emotion... Said, if you feel like giving me a lifetime of devotion..... I second that emotion...."

Al Cleveland and Smokey Robinson... 1967....

Emotions certainly have a very important and scriptural part in a Christian's life. Emotionalism is another thing, but emotion has its proper place. The most important aspects of life are based in emotion. Now this is not to say that certain emotions must be reinforced by positive actions, but it starts with the emotion. In Smokey Robinson's 1967 song, "I Second That Emotion, he hopes that the emotion of love will lead to a lifetime of devotion. "Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Pet.4:8). Love is perhaps the most important of emotions has an important place in our lives, and leads to better things. "Rejoice in the Lord always; again will say rejoice" (Phil.4:4). The emotion of joy should permeate our lives to the point of saturation.. "For I hope in You, O Lord; You will answer, O Lord my God" (Psa.38:15). A life without the emotion of hope is an empty life. We ought to constantly emote with hope toward the Lord. We do not always enjoy the emotion of sorrow, but it is a necessary one. Sorrow keeps life in balance and often works to increase our love, joy, and hope. The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us that there is an appointed time for everything, even the emotion of hate. "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way. And the perverted mouth I hate" (Pov.8:13). Hate is a powerful emotion that is to be reserved for things that are evil. Finally, there is the emotion of fear. It is an emotion that keeps us from hurting ourselves, but it has even more implication. "Do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both the soul and the body in hell" (Matt.10:28). Our emotions are so important to us, but must be tempered by our faith and rooted in the Word.... Are you ready to second that emotion?

Have a great day.... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
