The New Birth Message

"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again" (Jn.3:3).

The gospel message about rebirth has been a consistent one since Jesus made this landmark statement to a Pharisee named Nicodemus. The symbolism is amazing... Jesus compares the extraordinary transformation of a newborn emerging from the womb, to a sinner getting to be a part of the kingdom of God. I can't even imagine how impressive this must have been to the people of Jesus' time, because it gives me shivers when I think of it... The apostle Paul said the same thing, but used slightly different terms. "Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, so as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so that we might walk in newness of life" (Rom.6:4). Instead of using the symbolism of a new baby, Paul writes of dying to the old man of sin, burying him, and having him rise up to a new life... Same message... different symbolism... James writes of this rebirth in a slightly different way. "He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created" (1:18). I would be remiss If I didn't let the apostle Peter have his say about the rebirth... "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Pet.1:3). The lovely language of rebirth is woven into the fabric of the gospel message. Through this rebirth, however, this must be included... People get to experience a transformation. A transformation into a new life.. Though the story is old, the message is more current and vibrant than tomorrow's news. As Christians, we would do well to reflect on the wonderful grace of God that makes this awesome transformation possible...

Have a great day... Do Good... Give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
