Look Around

"So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it" (1 Cor.10:12-13).

Most of you probably know that I played a lot of sports, especially baseball. To say that I dwelled baseball quite a bit might be very true. I have had this habit for many years that has stayed with me. When I drive along in my car and see an open area, I imagine a baseball field on it. I am not suggesting that this is something that everyone should do, but I am suggesting this; To stay mentally sharp and aware, it is good for us to take in our surroundings. To look around... In practicing mindful awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations, we can improve the knowledge we have about ourselves. In reflecting on our experiences, especially about the things we are grateful for, we will develop a greater appreciation of what really matters to us. With this in mind, as Christians it is important for us to maintain an awareness of our spiritual circumstances. Today's verses may give us some insight into what I am referring to. The first verse lets us know that there are dangers out there. We need to stay on our toes to keep from falling into the embraces of sin and becoming entangled. The second verse lets us know that there is help available to deal with those temptations of life. We are to be aware of the blessings that God provides for us. Another part of this awareness involves the mutual edification that we get from being with other Christians. "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the confidence we had at first" (Heb.3:13-14). Through our relationships with other Christians we can be uplifted, encouraged and edified. Look around... Take it all in... Be aware of everything out there... Both the dangers and the blessings... This will help us to be mentally well and spiritually aware...
