Good Lover VS Bad Lover

"But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back" (Lk.6:35).

I think that a mark of a true Christian revolves around who, what and why a person loves. One of the risks that we take in life is to love without being loved in return. Jesus viewed some people who loved, but only in response to love shown toward them. They were willing to love, but others had to take the initiative. There are those who go through life with this as their attitude about love, and their relationships are grounded in it. "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?" Jesus also saw some lovers as those who loved only when the relationship was a reciprocal one. He said: "Even sinners do that." This type of lover sets conditions.... "If you love me first, I will consider loving you back." It would be good for us to read and meditate upon this section of Luke 35. Today's verse explains the kind of lovers that Jesus wants us to be. He wants us to be the ones who take the initiative. The admonition in today's verse is a commandment that Jesus makes about love. It is an expectation on His part. Even though we might look at this as rare among men, Jesus made it a requirement for His disciples. Sometimes the display of our love requires a risk. Ralph W. Sockman wrote: "To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing." Now don't get me wrong.... It is wonderful to bask in the love that others have for us.... We just need to be cognizant of Jesus' most high standards so that we will be the best of lovers...

Have a great day....Let His love shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
