Proper Love

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love" (1 Jn.4:7-8).

Today's verse is the alto lead in one of the hymns in our song book entitled The Greatest Commands... The bass part continues with 1 Cor.13:7..."Love bears all things, believes all things, love hopes all things, endures all things." Love marks us as God's disciples. The apostle John tells us: "We know we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death" (1 Jn.3:14). There is nothing that surpasses love when it comes to real spirituality. In the third chapter of the Book of Colossians, the apostle Paul lists several wonderful virtues that we should clothe ourselves with. They include: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. He then writes: "Over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity" (V 14). We use different kinds of glues to hold different things together. When it comes to human relationships, love is the universal glue... True friendship is glued together by love. Families depend on the glue of love for them to function the way God meant them to. Finally, churches also need the glue of love to keep them as God's agency here on earth. "Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being in one spirit and purpose" (Phil.2:2). When it come to binding people together, nothing beats love... The right kind of love is so very important when it comes to our relationship with God and others... It is Proper love...

Have a wonderful day... Love often and well... Love mark Phil.4:11
