To Us A Child

"To us a child of hope is born, to us a Son is given; Him shall the tribes of earth obey, Him all the hosts of heaven; Him shall the tribes of earth obey, Him all the hosts of heaven"

John Morrison 1781

One of the decisions that parents will make when a child is born to them is the name. So many names to choose from... Should we give the child a traditional name, or one of those trendy names that is popular today? Maybe it ought to be a family name... "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel ------- which means 'God with us'" (Matt1:23).... "Now on the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angels had given him before he was conceived" (Lk.2:21). There was certainly no shortage of names that Jesus would have designated for Him. The prophet Isaiah, 600 - 700 years before Jesus' birth wrote this. "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders...." Isaiah then preceded to give some more names for this child we know as Jesus.... "And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (9:6-7). The wonder that is Jesus Christ our Savior should lift us up every time we think of Him. To know that He was a part of our Heavenly Father's plan for us is just a awesome thought. Jesus fulfilled all of those names. As the Emmanuel, He certainly is God with us... As Wonderful Counselor, His teachings have given us a fantastic way to live. His power as Mighty God is unsurpassed. As an Everlasting Father he has been an enduring, compassionate provider and protector for us. His rule as Prince of Peace has brought a wholeness and a well-being to each of us individually, and to society in general. As we approach the time of year when the world thinks of Jesus' birth, let us pause and give thanks for God's wonderful gift to us... May all the tribes of earth obey Him....

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
