A Most Humble Time Of The Year

"She wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn" (Lk.2:7).

I was tempted to make the title this morning, A Most Profitable Time Of The Year... I overcame it... Here in the United States, Christmas is an important time of the year for the economy, as things related to it dominate the landscape. People spend great deals of money in their exchange of gifts, cards, and decorations and of course there's Santa Claus. It might to worthwhile for us to think of Jesus' humble nature today. To me, the greatest part of His birth except for the miraculous part, is the humility. An important part of God's message to us in the birth of His Son is about the humility. You must all admit that even by first century standards, being born in a stable was as primitive and humble as it gets. I think that God wanted to let people know from the jump that being humble was of great importance. When Jesus invites us to come to Him as a weary and burdened people, He says: "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matt.11:29). Jesus began in a humble way. His teachings, and those of His apostles, were all about being humble also. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time" (1 Pet.5:6). Finally, the message of Jesus about humility comes to us through His death. "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death ------ even death on a cross" (Phil.2:8). As we reflect upon the season, let us be awed by Jesus' humble beginnings and realize that it was a portent of things to come. Let us view it as A Most Humble Time of the Year...

Have a very good Christmas Day... Love mark Phil.4:11
