Resolution # 2 - Exercise More

"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me" (Lk.9:23).

Most of us would readily admit that some daily form of physical exercise is important to us. When I was younger, distance running was a passion for me. I was out there on the roads long before running became so popular. Three joint replacements later, running has become verboten.. I have learned to embrace the bicycle and that is now my main form of cardio-vascular fitness. Some of you may run and others may walk. Many of you may have a gym membership where you can choose from many different machines to help you with your physical fitness. In today's verse, Jesus explains to us about the necessity of daily exercise. A daily from of spiritual exercise.... He tells us that we should do some weight training. "Take up my cross daily." He explains that doing this exercise will require some self-denial and dedication. "He must deny himself." Some days we may just not feel like exercising, so we have to remember this dedication thing. Just thinking about doing the exercise won't cut it. If we are to get the benefits of the exercise, a daily regimen of cross-bearing must be adhered to. If you will pardon the pun, Jesus was probably one of the first to recommend cross-training. Along with the weight training of the cross, He says that we need to walk, run, or bike... "Follow Me." As with the cross-bearing, this is not to be some casual type of exercise program that we are to do when the feeling hits us. When we decide that Jesus is the one for us, it should be set in stone that we will become daily spiritual exercise warriors.... Let us embrace Jesus' daily exercise program... "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." I hope that all of you have a great workout today...

Have a wonderful day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
