The Gift That Keeps On Giving

"But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life" (Rom.6:22).

In 1925 the Victor Talking Machine Company coined the term I used for today's title for advertising their product. A gift that reproduced sounds. It made sense... The patent for the slogan ran out in 1967 and since then the slogan has been freely used to sell things that seem to have a lasting effect... Yesterday we viewed eternal life as a present gift... "that we too may live a new life." (V 23). This is the eternal life which has yet to be lived or realized by those who have taken Jesus into their lives. Jesus spoke of eternal life in this same way when He said: "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life" (Matt.25:46). Jesus is talking abut an eternal life as a future hope and not a present possession. The apostle Paul speaks about it in the same way when he wrote to Titus. "A faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time" (1:2). This is the eternal life that comes after one has been set free from the bonds of sin through one's baptism. It comes after one becomes a slave to God as we present ourselves as servants of righteousness.... Notice the wording of today's verse; "and the result (end) is eternal life." Paul is speaking about a gift that I received at the end of a faithful life. Though the wages of sin are death, God offers us the precious gift of living eternally with Him. No matter what the result of sin, this wonderful promise of the hope of eternal life more than makes up for it. An indescribable gift.. A Gift That Keeps On Giving.... FOREVER....

Have a wonderful day... Think Large.... Act Small... Love mark Phil.4:11
