Being In Jesus

"I am the bread of life".... "I am the good shepherd"..... "I am the vine" (Jn.6:36, 10:11, 15:5).

Jesus made claims to be the bread of life, the good shepherd, and the vine. When He said that He was the vine however, He expanded on it in a very special way... "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (15:5). Even in the closest of human relationships, there is a certain distance that separates people. Within even the tight-knit family where there is much shared love, that bit if distance exists. Jesus is saying to His disciples and us that as the vine and branches, (Him and us) there is no such distance... Jesus said that His disciples are in Him and that He is in them.... It just doesn't get any closer than that! "There is no one righteous, not even one" (Rom.3:10). Because sin comes into each of our lives, even with the noblest of intentions, there is no such thing as a self-sufficient life. When we fail to abide in Jesus, we lie lifeless like those branches that came off the trees in recent storms. The branches no longer have a connection to the vine and they are rendered useless... "If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned" (V 6). When a Christian allows some other influence to justify an ungodly behavior, it is a sign that Jesus is not abiding in them... Jesus in the next few verses, tells His disciples (and us) how to prevent this from happening. "If you remain in me and my words remain in you" ..... "ask whatever you wish" (V 7). We must read the Word so that His thoughts will dwell in us and we need to pray so that the relationship will remain an intimate one. For the branch to be fruitful, it must remain in the vine... That means being in Jesus...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
