The Angle of Incidence


"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable --- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy --- think about such things" (Phil.4:8).

My title today is half of science's Law of Reflection... It states in simple terms that the angle at which a light strikes an object is the angle at which it will be reflected. Because of it, when we look into the mirror, we have certain expectations. We do not want to be like the man in the Book of James... "Anyone who listens to the word but does not do it is like a man who looks at his face in the mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like" (1:23). The mirror adheres to the law, so what we see is what is there. In today's verse, reflection is the main theme. The apostle Paul is telling us about some things that it would be good for us to reflect upon... "think about such things." Needless to say, life is not always about lollypops and roses... We will spend the day doing things that we need to do and want to do. Hopefully many of these things are the same.... More than likely, we will spend some time in reflection about several things. In this short life that we live, I hope that we find much more pleasure in having our reflections tinted by those things that Paul mentions in today's verse from the Book of Philippians... Have you ever associated with someone who never seems to be happy? When you get into a conversation with them you just know that it will be filled with negativity. Its just no fun... I am going to do a short series of devotionals about our reflections. Hopefully they will help all of us to have happier days, and maybe we can rub off on those that aren't as happy or blessed as we are. The Law of Reflection will apply...
