Upon Further Reflection

"How shall the young secure their hearts, and guard their lives from sin? Thy word the choicest rules imparts to keep the conscience clean....." ( Isaac Watts 1719)

The words of the hymn How Shall the Young Secure Their Hearts come from Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible. It would be good for us to reflect upon some of its verses today... ( 9-16, 97-105). The first verse of the hymn, which is today's reading, comes from verse nine of the Psalm. If a young person spends time in reflection upon the Word, he or she can keep their way pure. As I reflect upon that myself, it is sage advice for people of any age. If we skip down to verse eleven, more wonderful meditation can be done.... "Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against you." The more that we reflect upon the Lord's Word, and treasure it in our hearts, the easier it becomes to resist the temptation to sin. Monday's verse (Phil.4:8) encourages us to reflect on good and worthy things... As we move along to verse 97, the psalmist writes: "O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day" He even goes on the tell us why. "Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies. For they are ever mine. I have more insight than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation" (Vs 98-99). We can gain so much wisdom as we reflect upon the Word of God and keep its precepts. My last thought for reflection today comes from verse 105. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" Under the cover of darkness, people will do many things that they should not do. As we reflect upon the Word, it becomes our infrared lens to pierce the darkness and light our path. Just a bit more reflection tomorrow..

I friend told me that this week is Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week. I went to the website she sent me and found it to be very interesting... www.randomactsofkindness.org/rak-week. Have a wonderful day. The site may give you some good thoughts... Love mark Phil.4:11
