The Measure of Hope

"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word" (2 Thess.2:16-17).

You will please notice the temperature where I am this morning. We are all familiar with what 22 degrees Fahrenheit means... Its -5 to -6 Celsius, correct? Sorry, its the science teacher in me.... We measure the temperature in our homes, ovens and refrigerators, in degrees... In science we have a tendency to say that if something has value, it can be measured. Since hope is a valuable commodity, it can be measured in a sense. We cannot measure it with the exactitude of some things, but it is measurable nonetheless. There are those in the world with no hope. Speaking to Gentiles, the apostle Paul wrote: "remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world" (Eph.2:12). Without hope describes many people in the world today and we would say that their degree of hope is just about bottomed out. There are those in the world today just a little hope, and unfortunately, we may count many Christians in this category. Jesus said: "Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not suddenly come on you like a trap" (Lk.21:34). There are those who have the hope, but rarely think about it because they are weighed down by worldly cares. Their degree of hope is very low. Let us give praise to our Lord that so many of us that live in Christ have the wonderful hope that is found in His blessed grace. "Be joyful in hope" (Rom.12:12). We are able luxuriate and bask in this hope... This living hope that ought to describe every Christian today. Our degree of hope should be white hot in the knowledge Jesus Christ. The measurement ought to be off the chart... Is it?

Have a great start to your week... A RAK or two would be excellent... Love mark Phil.4:11
