More Walk and Light

"When I kept silent. my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long....Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover my iniquity. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the Lord --- and you forgave the guilt of my sin" (Psa.32:3, 5).

If we are to walk in the light we must abandon sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom.3:23). Is it a contradiction therefore, that we are told to not to sin, even though we know that we will? It is not! As long as we live on this planet, we must deal with the problem of sin that lurks all around us. Sometimes we read the Romans verse I just referenced and think of sin's inevitability, without reading what follows... "and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus" (V 24). Now here's what walking in the light really means when it comes to the problem of sin.... It means that we confront our sin head on without any denial. Through confession and forgiveness, we are than able to abandon it. It doesn't mean that sinning should not fill us with remorse and sorrow. It means that none of us live above it, but shouldn't use that as an excuse and take a cavalier attitude about it. Basically, there are three ways that people deal with sin. Some simply deny it! Some acknowledge and confess it, but can't leave it alone. The third and proper way is to acknowledge and confess the sin, and then abandon it. Until one brings it before God, abandonment is impossible. Look at today's verse... Confession is the first step toward forgiveness, but confession without abandonment makes a mockery of the whole process... "He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces (abandons) them finds mercy" (Prov.28:13). I don't like the sexism in the term, "man up", but I get its meaning. In terms of today's lesson, it means to face up to our sins (confess) and renounce (abandon) them. It is God's way for us to walk in the light...

Have a wonderful day... Walk in the Light... Love mark Phil.4:11
