Getting To Know Jesus

"We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands" (1 Jn.2:3).

How do we get to know people? I am not talking just about a casual knowing here. How do we get to know someone well enough that we can truly call that person our friend? I know that many times we toss the word friend around in a pretty cavalier manner. A true friend is one that we look to for comfort, strength, advice, and trust. The blessings that God has given to mankind are solely for those who know Jesus.... Really know Jesus! To truly know Him, encompasses us completely. There is absolutely nothing superficial about this knowledge... We need to do the following: learn all about Him.... confess Him.... obey Him.... The feeling that we get for Him must be more than a slight tug of the heartstrings... In today's verse, John cuts through all of the fat and gets quickly to the meat. "We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands." A Christian must come to realize that in keeping His commands, God makes demands on us. "And anyone who does not carry his own cross and follow me cannot be my disciple" (Lk.14:27). John is very intent in getting his word across to us, as he is quite blunt about real obedience. "The man who says, 'I know him,' but does not do what he commands is a liar" (V 4). John then drops the L word on us. Getting to know Jesus means that love has to be involved. "But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him" (V 5). We get to know Jesus when his love is perfected in us and is reflected by our actions... In the quietness of our daily life we come full circle when our love is on display along our Christian walk... Then we know Jesus...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
