The Need To Love One Another

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (Jn.13:34-35).

We have all probably read today's verses many time. Few of us will challenge the need in our lives to love one another. A bit later, in chapter 15, Jesus reinforces this necessity to love. "My command is this. Love each other as I have loved you..... This is my new command: Love each other" (Vs 12, 17). Anything that stands as an impediment to loving each other needs to be avoided. In Paul's famous instructions to the church at Corinth, he gives some of the greatest words about love ever written. In chapter 13, he tells us about the great qualities of love that makes it so important to us. He says that it is patient and kind and that it does not envy. I could go on and on about the virtues of love that Paul lists here, but I want to point out something that we often miss. He actually starts the chapter this way: "If I speak in the tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." Words... Words... Words.... It is not the words that count but the love... Some of the things that love does, words will attempt to undo.. Love does not boast. Boasting comes with words... Love does not envy. Envying is usually manifested with words... Love is not rude. We often show our rudeness with the words that we say. Love is the most powerful thing that binds people together. Love tries very hard not to let loosely spoken words offend it. Love "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." (V 7). It is the blessed command of our Savior that we love one another. Lets not allow words that come from our mouths to endanger the relationships we have with each other. The need to love one another is great... Nothing should stand in its way...

Have a wonderful day... Look for the rainbow... Love mark Phil.4:11
