Real Immigration Reform

"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ" (Phil.3:20).

There is a lot of talk these days about immigration reform, so I hope that you didn't think I was going to go on some political rant today... My mom came to America in 1920 as a ten year old. Although she had many stories about the old country, there was no doubt about which country was her home. She even got involved in the political process, working at the polls in each election. I am even more proud to say that she was a citizen of the country mentioned in today's verse. As long as we are of the world, that is, not of Jesus' kingdom, we are aliens. All of those who are in this condition are in desperate need of real immigration reform.... As Christians, we might consider ourselves as pilgrims living among the nations of men. The apostle Peter started his first epistle this way; "To God's elect, (those are Christians) strangers in this world." My mom certainly learned that the benefits of living in America were far greater than those of her former country. It was probably the reason she supported the election process. When we make the decision to follow Jesus, we all join the process... "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens of God's household" (Eph.2:19). It would be good for us to read this verse and on the end of the chapter, and meditate upon it... We become fellow citizens! It is a wonderful citizenry. We become citizens of the kingdom of God, first and foremost. The wonderful news is that there is more! There is an even greater kingdom awaiting us... As we look at this total picture, I hope that we see real immigration reform....

Have a wonderful day... Do good.... Give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
