Don't Be The Disappointer

"In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary principles of God's word all over again" (Heb.5:12).

One of the things that I find interesting about church life is the diversity of its members. I am not talking about racial, ethnic, or physical differences though. When I was a teacher, most of my classes had that same diversity. It was all about where they were as far as what they knew about what I was trying to teach them. Each student was at a particular level and I had to take them from there to where I hoped they could be. Within a church, the same differences exist. People are at different levels of spiritual development. A good teacher tries to help them to mature. The writer of the Book of Hebrews is disappointed by the lack progress on the part of some members. It is somewhat like that old adage about getting a horse to water. We can present the material, but it is up to each to drink it in... Why they don't is one of the great mysteries involved in teaching. Maybe they see inconsistency in the life of those who are supposed to be the mature ones... Perhaps they see some who do not practice what they preach. It really stings when someone that we look up to disappoints us. Lets make sure that we are not the disappointers... They may have been stung by some ill-chosen words by someone that was supposed to be one of the examples. We must be willing to set they bar... Despite the fact that Timothy was chronologically younger, Paul said this to him: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity" (1 Tim.4:12). We are to help others realize that all Christians are in a constant state of transformation. Paul let us know in Phil.3:12-14 that even he had not attained it yet. He said that he constantly had to press on toward the goal. It is a good passage to read and meditate upon. There may be those who are looking to us for guidance. Lets not be the disappointers...

Have a wonderful day... Make a difference.... Love mark Phil.4:11
