The Dynamic Duo - Love and Obedience

"And this is His command: to believe in the name of the Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded us. Those who obey His commands live in Him, and he in them" (1 Jn.3:23-24).

I guess that when we were children, we may have viewed obedience as a drudgery. It was everywhere... You've got to obey at home...You've got to obey at school... You've even got to obey when you play on a sports team... When would it stop? When do we get to call the shots? The apostle John says that obedience is an integral part of the Christian life, but the term drudgery is never implied. Obedience to God is never to be considered a burden. Lets look at some more of what John says; "Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God." Why, you ask? Lets finish the verse... "and receive from Him anything we ask, because we obey His commands, and do what pleases Him" (V. 21). We do not simply obey to earn merit points from God. We don't obey to somehow deserve His blessings... Obedience is God's blessing. It does not have to do with going through self-denial, sacrifice, and struggle in this world for a promise of happiness in a future one... It is all about blessings for this present life and for the one to come. When struggles arrive in our lives, God is there to aid and comfort us. It is not shameful to need the intervention of God in our life... John assures us that as believers who obey, we have a God who listens. The obedient life is the means by which we can be assured that God abides in us. I can find no greater joy than in living the Christian life. God does not call upon His people to live miserably in this life to attain the next one. He is willing to give us a fullness of life in both worlds, as long as we have the dynamic duo.... Love and Obedience....

Have a wonderful day... Let Him live through you... Love mark Phil.4:1
