Love Revealed

"For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (Jn.3:16).

I am relatively sure that today's verse is one of the first ones you learned. When the apostle John writes "God is love," he does it with conviction. This assertion on John's part is not an empty claim, but rather a statement of fact. The sign in the front of our building in Northfield this week states this: "LOVE IS SOMETHING YOU DO, NOT SOMETHING YOU SAY." If our love is just a proclamation without any action involved, it is just a word... God's great love prompted Him to act. He acted by sending His one and only Son to us in the form of a man. Through His great love, God offers us life. God sent us His Son as a substitute for our sin. The Bible likes to use the word, propitiation. Its a good word to look up and research. There is more, however. Because God exhibited His live for us in the sending of His only Son, there are expectations on our part.... As God's love for us caused Him to act, we are to do the same. It is an imperative for us to love one another, for it is the basic building block of human well-being. As humans, we are at our very best when we love one another. The Book of Hebrews offers us another caveat... "And let us consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (10:24). The writer is telling us that love should be contagious and we are to be in the business of stimulating others to it with its requisite results. Newton's first law of motion is commonly called inertia. When a body is put into motion, it will stay in motion unless it is influenced by some outside force. God put love in motion, and it is now up to us to keep it moving. More tomorrow...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
