Finding and Serving

"How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God" (Heb.8:14)?

Finding the Lord and not serving Him, is tantamount to having a wonderful ability and not putting it to use. Like the children's song "This Little Light of Mine," there is an important use for our lights. They are not to be hidden under a bushel, but rather used to illuminate the way for us and others. One of the simplest ways for us to begin our service, is to attend church on a regular basis. At church we have the opportunity to offer the sacrifices of praise through song and prayer. We can exhort and stimulate one another as we set the example of not forsaking the assembly. (Heb.10:24-25). We can serve as we offer prayers of intercession for one another as Paul exhorted Timothy to do (1 Tim.2:1-3). James tells (5:16) us that "the effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much," just think of what the prayers of many righteous people can do! We are able to serve as we gather around the Lord's Table in Communion each week. Although this is a personal and individual act, it displays the unity that we have in the one body! (1 Cor.10:16-17). Lastly, in our weekly giving, we have a wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord as we "put aside, and save as we have prospered." (1 Cor.16:2). "For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God" (2 Cor.9:12). In doing this, we are encouraging one another to give thanks to God. If you noticed, I didn't mention anything about that all important sermon.... If there is not even one sermon preached, every time we come to church we have the opportunity to serve God and others. Hmmmmmmm... Maybe this would actually make a good sermon....

Have a great day... Serve the Lord with gladness... Love mark Phil.4:11
