Using The Tripod

"This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment that you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it" (2 Jn.6).

As I am writing this morning and I look to my left, I can see my old Tasco refracting telescope. I have had it for quite some time, and being interested in astronomy, it has served me well. It is attached to a tripod, which allows gives it stability as I focus in on a distant planet. The tripod is a three-legged support system also used in photography. Can you imagine what would happen if one of the legs of the tripod all of a sudden became dysfunctional? As Christians, we are spiritually balanced on a delicate tripod. Today's verse lets us know what each leg of the tripod is... "This is love, that we walk according to His commandments." You may be able to think of some different things that might be a part of our support system, but I have chosen these as the basics. We are to be people who love our God, our neighbor, and even our enemies... This love is in us and becomes a part of our Christian walk. This walk is possible because we have loved into obedience. The obedience is not a blind one however... We are to walk according to His commandments. In other words, we are to obey the truth of God's Word. Truth and love are not purchased at the expense of one another, but are reinforcing principles. The apostle John makes a plea for the truth in today's verse and explains that it dovetails into love through our obedience. Love finds expression as it enjoins us to obey the truth revealed by God. Our love, our stand for the truth, and our obedience to God cannot be compromised. If so, that wonderful balance that the tripod affords us will cause us to teeter. The three parts of the tripod are inter-dependent and strong. Its our job to keep them that way...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
