Koinonia

"But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another..." (1 Jn.1:7).

The apostle Paul wrote this to Timothy: "train yourself to be godly" (1 Tim.4:7). In order to grow in a spiritual way, exercise is necessary. This is literally true in all aspects of life, but especially important in the spiritual realm. One of those disciplines that we must exercise to achieve is that of fellowship... Some of you may have read my title this morning and wondered what today's devotional was all about. I was just bragging about my very limited knowledge of the Greek language. The word "koinonia" is the Greek word for fellowship. It means; to share in, fellowship with, or participate... The church of the first century leaned heavily on this aspect of Christianity, as they were active in their koinonia. It is a sad state that a church is in when the members lose their desire to fellowship. The time that we spend with other Christians should be treasured time. This doesn't only extend to going to church services, though I find this to be vitally important, but to other aspects also. Bible studies held in people's homes are a wonderful way to both study the Lord's Word and fellowship together. Lets not forget that hospitality thing... An unwillingness to either extend or accept offers of hospitality will make members become distant rather that close. Any opportunity to be with our brethren to praise the Lord, study the Word, or just enjoy time together, is a strengthening agent for the church. With the social network of being together today, have we lost a bit of actually being with one another? It may be cool to know what someone had for breakfast this morning, or the neat pictures of their pets, but is it the same as being together? Next time will be the benefits of koinonia...

Have a great day.. Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
