Friend or Acquaintance?

"You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am, I'll come running.... To see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall... All you've got to do is call, and I'll be there... You've got a friend.

You've Got a Friend... Carole King 1972

Have you read Ecclesiastes 4:9-12? Today we will zero in on verse 10... "If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up." So.... How can I distinguish between acquaintances and a friends? There is a simple acid test. Though I am not suggesting that you do this purposely, but when you get in trouble, the people that are still there by your side are your friends. Interestingly enough, there may not be as many as you think... "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" (Prov.17:17). If you call a real friend at 3:00 AM and tell them that you need them, they don't ask what the problem is and decide whether or not they will come... It is more like a "where are you?" as they are getting dressed and heading out of the door. How many people like that do you have in your life? The writer of the Book of Ecclesiastes takes a concise and close look at the importance of friendship in these few verses. A real friend is at his or her best when the chips are down. There are plenty of "good time charlies" that will be with you when there is fun to be had, but the real friend will help you when you're down. Jesus will always qualify as our best friend. He deserves it because He knows us better than anyone else does. He deserves it because He has done more for us than anyone else. And in keeping with today's verse from Ecclesiastes, He deserves it because he will always be there when we need Him... We are fortunate to have a friend around us that will help us under any circumstance. We are blessed to have Jesus as a friend who will never fail us...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
