More Joy Sources

"You welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit" (1 Thess.1:6).

When the Ethiopian of Acts 8:26-39 was baptized by Philip, it says: "When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but he went on his way rejoicing" (8:39). When one obeys the Word of the Lord into their conversion, it certainly fosters joy in the heart of the obedient. The scriptures leave no doubt that the Ethiopian rejoiced because he became obedient, as did the people of Thessalonica in today's verse. If this is so, could the lack of joy in the hearts of many be attributable to their lack of obedience. It would do us well to give some thought to this. Another joy source is very well explained by King David in Psalm 51. After the prophet Nathan came to him and chastised him for his sin with Bathsheba, David was overwrought with guilt. Verses 7-12 follow his confession of guilt, and the relief that he feels about God forgiving him. "Restore to me the Joy of your salvation, and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me" (V 12). Many people lack joy because they are burdened by the guilt of their wrongful actions. I believe that only those in Christ can enjoy the forgiveness of sins and the joy that follows... "Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have received reconciliation" (Rom.5:11). Those who have not found the forgiveness found only in Christ, have no way to experience the abiding joy that comes only in the Lord... More joy sources on Monday...

Have a great day... Go about doing good.... Love mark Phil.4:11
