Defeat Before The Start

"The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the Lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine" (1 Sam.17:37).

As a nine year old, I was about to play in my first Little League Baseball game. It was a moment I had been waiting for my whole life, and my friend Junior was in panic mode. We would be facing twelve year old Toby Harrington, the absolute best pitcher in the league, who's fastball and wildness were legendary. Junior was practically crying with the thought of getting in the batter's box to face him. He was defeated before he even got started. Today's verse is from the familiar story of David and Goliath. You might enjoy reading the whole story found in 1 Sam. 17.... Human beings were, on the average, much shorter in those days, and Goliath was over nine feet tall. People were petrified of him as he came out each morning and intimidated them with the physical challenge of a one on one battle with one of them... The only one who was not defeated before even starting was young David. David was not perfect, but he had the humility necessary to defer to the will of the Lord in his upcoming battle. Do we do the same as we face the possible trials and hardships that might lie before us, or do we just resign ourselves to a level of mediocrity? David never said; "He's so big, and I'm so small......" or "Here's what to do in case I lose...." What he did say was; "the Lord will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine." With the Lord on his side, his resolve was unshakable, deep, and unconditional. It was not "qualified" by the possibility of so many exceptions that would defeat him before he even got started. We all need to purpose what we are going to do in the Lord's work and just do it! It is what being a real disciple is all about. David turned down the armor and instead chose a sling.... And the Lord....

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4;11
