The Road To Teacherdom

"This Ezra came up from Babylon.. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given" (Ezra 7:6).

There is no such word as teacherdom... I made it up, but I think it works so I'll leave it here. Striving to become a teacher is a noble task that all should consider. The prophet Ezra was a teacher, as we find out in today's verse and knew the first step on the road to teacherdom... He was well versed in the Law of Moses. Ezra knew, as do we, that the first step in becoming a good teacher is to be a good student. "For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel" (Ezra 7:10). He planned his teaching career by studying the Law that he was to teach to the people of Israel. You can't teach what you don't know... A really good teacher never stops learning. It is a worthwhile lesson for all of us that we strive each day to become better. In the above verse from Ezra we find the second step, and that is observance...Its not just enough to know it, we have to live it. Ezra prepared first by studying and then by doing. Jesus always saw the Pharisees spouting the law, but they were hypocrites in that they did not practice what they preached. Nothing reinforces the validity of what we teach than the example we set. Are we good students of the Word that not only try to learn it but live it? If so, we are ready for step three. Become a teacher.... "And you, Ezra, in accordance with the wisdom of your God, which you possess, appoint magistrates and judges to all the people of Trans-Euphrates---all who know the laws of your God. And you are to teach any who do not know them" (Ezra 7:25). When starting to teach, find a mentor whose example you can follow. Even be willing to assist as Timothy did for the apostle Paul. But above all, strive to become a teacher. Know this.... Whether you do it formally or informally, we all become teachers of God's Word... If we are not ready to do it by word, we must do it by deed... We should all travel the road to teacherdom.

Have a wonderful day... Do good, give God the glory.... Love mark Phil.4:11
