God's Special Person

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy" (1 Pet.1:9-10).

As Israel was called God's chosen people in the Old Testament, Christians are designated as such in the New Testament. Christians of any race, ethnicity, or gender are now God's special people. I am so impressed when I read these two verses. It sounds fantastic to me to be God's chosen people... I am awed by the terms royal priesthood and a holy nation. Perhaps what ought to really take our breath away is the last superlative... "A people belonging to God...." We are special people now in God's eyes.. God had once chosen Israel (Deut.10:15) and made them a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. (Exo.19:5). They had become a "special people above all other nations" (Deut.7:6). What had at one time been designated to physical Israel, is now possible to all people that are in Christ. God, through His Son Jesus, makes us all His Sons! "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ, have clothed yourselves with Christ" (Gal.3:26). Paul goes on to eloquently explain that there are no exceptions and says: "If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (V 29). As Christians, we are these wonderful and true spiritual descendents of a promise that God made many centuries ago. I hope that I made all of you feel very special this morning, because I will continue this theme tomorrow. With these wonderful promises being bestowed upon us as God's children through Jesus Christ, come responsibilities... More on this to come.... For now...... Don't you feel special?

Have a great day... Christians should make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
