Peeking Into The Mail Box

"The woman said, 'I know the Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything' Then Jesus declared, 'I who speak to you am he'" (Jn.4:25-26).

When I was a kid, there were all kinds if giveaways offered by various companies. For a few Cheerio box tops (and a small shipping charge) I got a 12X telescope. I also sent for a free pocket knife and chain for just 25 Bazooka bubblegum comics. The hardest part was the waiting. I think that I checked the mail box the next morning after sending the stuff in, even though they said 2-3 weeks. There was a wondrous sense of anticipation and expectation... Jesus said the words in today's verse to the Samaritan woman at the well, after revealing many things to her about her life that a stranger could not know. The coming of the Messiah was replete in Old Testament writings, going all the way back to Moses. "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him" (Deut.18:15). It continued with King David in Psalms 45:6-7 and 110:1-4... Prophets like Isaiah, (9:6-7) Micah, (5:2-4) Jeremiah, (23:5-6) and Zechariah (6:12-13) told the people of the coming Messiah. All of these verses would be good ones for us to read and meditate upon. The people of Jesus' day should have been looking for that Messiah with a great anticipation and expectation... They should have been looking in that mail box every morning. Jesus' arrival should have been the culmination of their hopes, and for many He was... Though Jesus was a humble man, he never shied away from his Messiahship. Today's verse is only one of many in which Jesus declares Himself the be the Messiah, the Son of God. We too ought to view Jesus in that same manner... He is the Son that God promised, but so much more. He saves us from our sins and lifts us to the Father. No more peeking into the mail box is necessary...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
