Testimony Through The Prophets

"In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe" (Heb.1:1-20).

Yesterday we took a look at how God testified about Jesus through the prophesies of Moses and today we will look to the prophets. Isaiah, who prophesied about 700 BC, is the most expansive of the prophets who told of Jesus as the Messiah. "A voice of one calling in the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God" (Isa.40:3). This prophecy is so cool because it is fulfilled with the work of John the Baptist in Jn.1:19-23. Both John and Luke record how the Spirit came upon Him, just as Isaiah prophesied in several different verses. If you would like to read them, they are as follows; 61:1, 42:1, 11:2... Jesus made reference in Jn. 12 to passages from Isaiah about being rejected by men. "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering" (Isa.53:3). When Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem in the last week of his life, he was fulfilling a prophesy made by the prophet Zechariah. "See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey" (9:9).

Lastly, there are the prophesies about Jesus' crucifixion and burial. Zechariah predicts the death of Jesus (12:10) and Isaiah says that he will be buried in a rich man's tomb. (53:9)... John describes the crucifixion in detail and refers to Zechariah's prophecy about it and to Isaiah's about the burial. (19:37-42). I find these specific Messianic prophesies to be reassuring to my faith, as they are fulfilled over and over again. The Father wanted us to be crystal clear about his Son's life, so he made these predictions through the prophets. We serve a Savior who wants us to know about him... Do we?

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
