Testimony Through The Psalms

"For your zeal for my house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me" Psa.69:9).

When Jesus saw the money being changed in the temple, he used a whip and overturned the tables of those who were making a profit so blatantly. His disciples then remembered the Psalm that is today's verse and said: "Zeal for your house will consume me" (Jn.2:17). In the Psalms there are also many excellent references that are Messianic in nature. God also gives us testimony about his Son in the Psalms. This one was fulfilled by Judas Iscariot. "Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted his heel against me" (41:9). The Jews who rejected Jesus were predicted by this Psalm; "Let not those who gloat over who are my enemies without cause; let not those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye" (35:19). When the Roman soldiers divided Jesus' garments at the crucifixion and cast lots for them, they fulfilled this Psalm: "They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing" (22:18). While on the cross, Jesus was given gall and vinegar to drink as recorded in Jn.19:28-30. The foreshadowing of this is seen in Psalm 69:21. "They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar to drink." As we have seen through the past three devotionals, God bore testimony about his Son and our Savior through the Old Testament writings. There are over 300 of these prophesies that were fulfilled by Jesus. The apostles relied heavily on the testimony by the Father through many scriptures, that Jesus was the Christ. We can also allow these scriptures to bolster our faith and belief in Jesus our Savior.
