What Else Jesus Wants Of Us

"And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matt.28:20).

Along with becoming disciples, there is something else that we find in The Great Commission that Jesus desires of us. Today's verse is very specific. To be a true disciple one must keep his commandments. Just what are some of these commandments, and where do we start? There is no better place to go than in listening to the words of Jesus. "A new command I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (Jn.13:34). Not only does Jesus let us know what he desires from us as his disciples, but the rationale is found in the very next verse. "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Implied in this statement is that if we are to love our brethren, we've got to hang out with them. I would take that to mean church and fellowship. There is another commandment Jesus gives to his disciples. "That you bear much fruit showing yourselves to be my disciples." (Jn.15:8) There are many things that are involved in the bearing of fruit. Among these might be serving others, witnessing for Jesus, and maturing in His grace. Jesus is crystal clear in what it takes to be fruit-bearing disciples. "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch (us) can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine (Jesus). Neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in me" (Jn.15:4). There are surely many more things that Jesus desires of us as his disciples. It might do all of us good to read and meditate upon some of those things. Above all, remember that if we want to be a good disciple, we must have the desire to do what Jesus desires of us. It makes sense to me, how about you?

Have a wonderful day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
