No Excuses

"No one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and the age to come, eternal life" (Lk.18:29-30).

Today's verse is preceded by a statement of Peter. "We have left all we had to follow you" (V 28). In Chapter 14 of the Gospel of Luke, Jesus teaches us with The Parable of the Great Banquet. In it, He talks about a certain man who was preparing a great feast and inviting many guests. When the time had come, he told his servant to tell all those who were invited; "Come, for everything is ready" The excuse machines then started. One man talked about a field he had purchased that he had to go look at. Who buys a field without looking at it first? Another bought some oxen and had to try them out. Wouldn't you have tried them out before you bought them? The other talked about have just gotten married. Why not bring your new wife along? When Jesus called Peter, James, and John, they laid down their fishing nets and followed Him. In becoming one of Jesus disciples, we take on the highest of callings. There are to be no excuses... As with Peter, we may not think we're good enough... Not a good excuse! We may think that there are other things that are more important... Not good enough! Jesus has told us in today's verse that the rewards outweigh any possible excuses, both in this life and in the one to come. Our mindset in becoming a disciple must be the same as Peter's. "Because You say so." The KJV puts it this way: "Nevertheless, at thy word." The minds of Peter, James, and John illustrate the attitude that we must also have. It is a willingness to do whatever the Lord says! There is no cost to great... There is no excuse that is good enough.... There is no comfort zone that is comfortable enough... In the parable of the great banquet, the man was angry about the excuses and sent out his servants to invite the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame... He finished by saying: "I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet" (V 24). Our call to discipleship is too great... There are no excuses...

Have a wonderful day... Do good, give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
