One - Not The Loneliest Number

"For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ" (1 Cor.12:12).

We can be safe in assuming that the apostle Paul had a special feeling about "one." That is, he had a passion for the oneness of the body of Christ... That oneness of the church emanated from a call for a response to the gospel. Those that are called of God have placed an unwavering faith in the redemptive act of Jesus on the cross, and are willing to obey His will. By definition, the saved are those of the church. The unity or oneness of the church is threatened when the message of the gospel is altered or changed, or when individual Christians are insistent that their opinions prevail... In a very important sense, the unity of the church is a gimme.. The church is one because the saved (its members) are one. When division arose in the Corinthian church, Paul appealed to this oneness. He sought a healing in the church in which it was pointed out to them about the one body that Christ had created them to be. That's what today's verse points them and us toward. In the church at Corinth the disruption was not over any doctrinal issue(s)... It was about some special spiritual gifts that had been manifested to them by the laying on of hands by Paul, the apostle. The division took root as they argued over which spiritual gifts carried more clout, or were more important than others. To bring his point across, Paul spoke in twelfth chapter of First Corinthians about various parts of a human body and concluded: "No, much rather, those members of the body which seem weaker are necessary.... that there should be no schism in the body, but that members should have the same care for one another..." (Vs 22 & 24) Paul stressed that all the members of the body can use their own special abilities for the betterment of the church. The highly visible and the lesser visible all played an important part. The purpose of the oneness of the body is defeated when petty jealousies arise over another's gifts... The church operates at it's peak when.... "And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all rejoice with it" (V 27). One is good...

Have a great day... Do good and give the Lord the honor... Love mark Phil.4:11
