With Purpose

"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself" (Dan.1:8).

It might seem like a small thing that Daniel didn't want to eat the rich foods or drink the wine from the king's obviously sumptuous fare. After all, it was more than likely the finest food and drink there was there in Babylon. But the food from Nebuchadnezzar's offerings were thought by a good Israelite to be contaminated because the first part of it was offered to idols. In much the same way, the wine though it was probably the best available, had part of it poured on a pagan altar. All of these foods were ceremonially unclean because the animals were not slaughtered and prepared according to the regulations of the Law... Now it would have been the easy way out for Daniel to put all of this aside, not rock the boat, and eat the foods... Not to mention that they were probably very tasty... But Daniel was a man of purpose... Even as a young boy in a strange land, burdened with the pressure to conform, Daniel purposed in his heart to uphold the Law of God no matter what the consequence... Interestingly enough, Daniel's (V 9) willingness to put God first gained him favor in the sight of others... All children of God have to be people of purpose. No one respects someone who is wishy-washy when it comes to the direction their lives must take... Just as it did with Daniel, being willing to make a stand for your beliefs will often gain you the respect of others. Even though they might not completely understand your belief, they will admire your purpose... Jesus set the bar for us to get started on a purpose filled life. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matt.6:33). He wants us to seek the will of God and fulfill it in our lives, no matter what the circumstance... Matthew 6:33 is a promise from Jesus to guarantee God's favor toward us. It will likely help us to gain favor in the eyes of those around us also... A Christian life ought to be one with purpose...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
