A Bit More Love

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put away childish things" (1 Cor.13:11).

Without being accusatory, the apostle Paul hinted to members of the Corinthian church that their attitude was a childish one. As far as the Corinthians knew, eternity would begin in a few minutes, years, or millennia. Whenever it took place, spiritual gifts would end. But love... Love would continue forever... The Corinthian Christians needed to know that the gifts that they prized so much were limited to their present age. There are some that argue about the perfect (V 10) that Paul was talking about was the completion of the revelation of the New Testament. Though this interpretation may have some merit, Paul was addressing the hopes, values, and aspirations of the church at Corinth... If Paul argued that the gifts would cease after the apostolic age was done, it would have little meaning to them. It should go without saying that the purpose of the gifts was to help confirm the truth of the gospel message. "God also testifying to them. both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will" (Heb.2:4). Jesus' miracles served much the same purpose. When the written message had been completed, the purpose of the miracles ceased to exist. Now it was love that would reign supreme. The need for love would never, ever cease... The arguing over which gifts were more special had to end. They must put away childish things and give their bodies and souls to the practice of love... Paul tells them that in this world we see dimly, and as our hearts are set on the world to come, petty bickering's must come to an end, as love reigns supreme. Just like in the Corinthian church, nothing of our present age will last forever. When we have passed away, none of our possessions, no matter how highly we prize them, will go with us... "Now abide these three... faith, hope, and love.... But the greatest of these is love"... All that we say and do as the redeemed of Jesus Christ, is to be governed by the principles of love.... Love will go on forever...

Have a great day... Do good and give Him the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
