The Night Light

"Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God" (2 Cor.3:4-5).

The message of Jesus Christ shines clearly to us a bright beacon. In the bathroom of our home is a tiny plug-in night light. It is an iridescent square, that gives off just enough light that one can come in during the night for those necessary visits and not have to turn on that harsh bright light. When the apostle Paul was writing, there was no New Testament for him to reference and appeal to. It had not been written yet. The only written words were those of the Old Testament. Unfortunately, there was no salvation, grace or forgiveness found there, but many Jewish Christians were adamant about it. They believed that before Gentiles could become Christians, they had to become Jews first. Because of this, they attacked Paul personally, trying to undermine his work in bringing the message of Jesus and the cross to all people. Paul wanted the Corinthian Christians to know that they were doing much more than just tweaking the gospel message around the edges. His opponents were attempting to undercut the apostolic message's real substance. Paul was no enemy of the Jews, as he actually was a Jew. The Old Law was good and holy, but through Christ he learned that by itself, it was a ministry of death. "For God who said, 'let light shine out of darkness,' made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" (V 6). When it is necessary to turn on that bathroom light, the night light literally disappears. It was good to let people know who God was, but it's real importance was in leading them to Christ who said: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (Jn.8:12). The ministry of the Spirit was founded at the cross of Jesus. It burns so much more brightly than the Law that the Law pales by comparison.... Just like the night light... We must not be deterred by any other message. It is clear that the gospel of Jesus, the light of the world, is the way to an abundant life, both here and forever. No night light....

Have a great start to your week. Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
