The Veil

"We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away" (2 Cor.3:13).

Why women have a veil as a part of their wedding ensemble has a rich a varied history. I found the account of how Jacob was fooled into marrying Leah instead of Rachel was probably carried out with the use of a veil to be interesting. A veil will keep someone from seeing a clear image of what is behind it, and in today's verse, Moses wore one to keep the people from seeing that his radiant image was fading. Against this backdrop, the apostle Paul uses the imagery of the veil. "But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed because only in Christ is it taken away" (V 14). To those Christians who would cling to the Old Law as a part of their salvation, the veil still existed. The Old Law had served it's purpose, but had been fulfilled in Jesus Christ. All along it is understood that it offered no grace, forgiveness, or salvation, but tradition made certain Jewish Christians cling to it nonetheless... They took this to the extent of expecting Gentiles to become Jews before they became Christians. Paul had to fight this battle because there were so many that believed this way. I believe that verse 18 of this chapter is a extremely important one. It would do us good to read it and meditate upon it... "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory in the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit" (V 18).... It is vitally important for us to realize that through the Spirit, we are released from the bondage that held the Israelites. "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death" (Rom.8:1). Through Jesus Christ, the Spirit of life is able to reign in our lives. There is no veil making it difficult for us to see the truth that saves us... I will conclude with some more thoughts on this tomorrow... I think the veil will come completely off....

Have a great day.... Do good.... Give God the glory.... Love mark Phil.4:11
