When To Dig The Well

"With joy you will draw the water from the wells of salvation" (Isaiah 12:3)

There can be no doubt that one of the necessities of life is in taking in water to stay alive. In Isaiah's time wells were the main source of water. There is an old Chinese proverb that simply states: "Dig your well before you are thirsty"... On a purely physical level, if one waits until he is thirsty before digging the well, they will likely die of thirst before they get the water they need. Preparation for thirst must take place before the need arises. I am sure that you have figured out that I am not really going to write about physical thirst this morning. We will all be confronted, if we haven't been already, with times of spiritual thirst... If we do no preparation for this time, we run the danger of not being able to quench that thirst. We ought to be digging our wells right now! I can think of all those age worn sayings about getting things in the proper order... "Don't put the cart ahead of the horse..... Its too late to close the barn door after the horse has gotten out...." This digging one's well at the right times falls right in line with those. There are a lot of potential droughts out there, that we must prepare for. The Christian life is not always easy. There will certainly be times of tribulation and hardship, just as there was in the time of Jesus when he warned His disciples. "In this world you will have trouble" (Jn.16:33). Pain, death, natural calamities, economic troubles, terrorism, war are some of those problems. If we are to survive these potential droughts, our spiritual wells must be dug in advance. Because the devil is our enemy and the flesh is weak, temptations will certainly try to lure us in. We might become hardened to the deceitfulness of sin and fall away in times of temptations if our wells have not already been dug to quench this spiritual thirst. Finally, there will be a Day of Judgement for all of us. Some will hear good news and some will not... If we are spiritually thirsty on that day, it will be too late to dig the well... I will write about this some more, but for now I have a suggestion.... If you haven't begun yet, start digging... If you have begun, keep digging....

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
