Lights, Action.....

"So that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world" (Phil.2:15).

There is probably not a more used metaphor in the Bible when it comes to proper behavior than light... Through Isaiah, God told the Israelites that He had appointed them as lights to the nations (42:6). Jesus challenged His followers to be lights set on a hill (Matt.5:14). In the Book of Romans, Paul reprimands the Jews who lived in sin and yet claimed themselves to be lights to those in darkness. (2:19). So, it is not unusual when in today's verse, Paul calls Philippian Christians lights in the world... Today is an election day here in NJ, as we vote for a governor along with local and county officials. For politicians, appearance is everything. That means that they must present themselves in the best possible light. For Christians, rather than appearance, substance is everything... The obedience of the Philippian Christians was not something that they put on display when their teacher was around. Their appearance was their substance! Their obedience was not something that weighed them down as a burden, but rather it was woven into the fabric of who they were. Joy was woven into that same fabric. A mature Christian has to realize that sin is not just something that someone "gets away with." They knew, as should we, that sin is a destroyer and if allowed to, separates one from God and can cause spiritual death. "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome" ( 1Jn.5:3). Obedience, rather than being a burden, is in reality a gift from God. Here is something that the Christians at Philippi came to know and would be good for us to know also. Godly living is not a thing to be enforced... They were going to obey God whether Paul was around or not. Whether we are in the presence of Christians or non-Christians, we are to take today's verse to heart. "So that you will prove yourself to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world" Lights, Action......

Have a wonderful day... Do good and give God the glory... Love mark Phil.4:11
