Lighten Up

"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine..."

Children's song by Harry Dixon Loes circa 1920

For those of you style conscious people, have you noticed that light in homes no longer comes from those glaring bare light bulbs? In most modern home, lights tend to be unobtrusive. They are recessed and most of the time hidden away and not calling attention to themselves... In yesterday's verse, Paul called on us as lights in the world to be blameless and innocent.... (Phil.2:15). Imagine yourself going to an award ceremony to honor someone.. The master of ceremonies is about to present the award and says; "And this year's award for being the most blameless person goes to............." They just don't give out any special awards for being blameless, and for some, innocence may be an occasion for shame.... Living pure and godly lives is all about not calling any undue attention to ourselves. Instead of being those harsh and glaring lights, we are called upon to be those that are recessed. I don't want this to infer that a Christian is not to appear as a light to the world. I just want us to be like the children's song. "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine...." Everyone knows that we have to put gasoline in cars for them to run, but there is that pesky oil that needs to be changed every few thousand miles. Behind the scenes, the oil is needed to keep the moving parts running smoothly. Paul knew that a godly life is the oil that keeps the world's machinery operating the way it should. As lights of the world, we are that silent oil, quietly doing its job. The perverse and crooked generation, which is today's world, needs blameless, pure, and innocent people. Whether it realizes it or not, it gets along better in the presence of those who are above reproach... It runs more smoothly when there are people who will forgo grumbling and bickering, and show kindness.. So may I suggest to you today that you lighten up and sing the song... "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine...."

Have a great day... Let His Light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
